Why Guests Say Dining at Thong Thai Bistro Feels Like Being Back in Thailand

There is one compliment that appears again and again in our guest reviews:

“It feels like we’re back in Thailand.”

For us, those words mean far more than simply serving authentic food. They tell us that we have recreated an experience that reminds people of their travels, family holidays, or life in Thailand.

So what makes the difference?

It begins before a single dish is served.

Many restaurants hand guests a menu and leave them to choose on their own. At Thong Thai Bistro, we believe dining should be more personal. Indi enjoys spending time with guests, learning about their favourite flavours, spice preferences, and any dietary requirements before recommending dishes that suit them. Whether someone prefers milder flavours, loves seafood, follows a vegetarian diet, or has specific dietary needs, we help curate a meal that fits the individual rather than expecting the guest to navigate the menu alone.

Behind every recommendation is Chef June‘s authentic Southern Thai cooking. Her recipes come from her parents and grandparents, preserving the flavours she grew up with in Southern Thailand. These are not recipes developed for commercial kitchens—they are family recipes prepared with care and respect for tradition.

Fresh ingredients are equally important. Our vegetables are delivered daily to maintain quality, even though this means paying additional delivery charges because our order size does not always meet the supplier’s minimum value. We make the same commitment to seafood, sourcing it carefully and refusing to compromise on freshness. If we are not satisfied with the quality, we simply do not serve it.

These decisions may require more effort and higher costs, but we believe they are essential to delivering authentic Southern Thai cuisine book here.

Perhaps that is why guests so often describe our food as authentic, our service as warm and welcoming, and their overall dining experience as absolutely amazing. We also do delivery and takeaway.

Our goal has never been to recreate Thailand with decorations alone. We hope to recreate it through honest hospitality, authentic family recipes, and food prepared with ingredients we are proud to serve.

More Than a Meal: The Atmosphere That Brings People Together

People often compliment the atmosphere at Thong Thai Bistro.

But what does “great atmosphere” really mean?

For us, it has never been about expensive interior design or trendy decorations. A warm atmosphere is created by the people who walk through our doors and the memories they make together.

Every week, we welcome guests celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, business lunches, corporate dinners, team gatherings, and friends meeting after work. Some are introducing loved ones to authentic Southern Thai food for the first time. Others are returning because Thong Thai Bistro has become part of their own family traditions.

Our dining spaces are designed to suit many occasions. Whether you’re planning an intimate dinner for two, a family celebration, or a larger group event, we want every guest to feel comfortable and unhurried.

Why We Still Love Running Our Family Restaurant Every Day

Why We Still Love Running Our Family Restaurant Every Day

People often see the smiles in a restaurant, but they don’t always see the work behind them.

Running a family restaurant means early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays spent serving guests. There are deliveries to check, fresh ingredients to prepare, tables to set, and countless details that happen long before the first diner arrives.

So why do we keep doing it?

Because we love it.

Chef June has never seen cooking as just a profession. The recipes she prepares today are the same ones she learned from her parents and grandparents in Southern Thailand. Every dish is an opportunity to share a part of her family’s traditions with someone new.

For Indi, the greatest joy is meeting people. Every table is different. Some guests are trying authentic Thai food for the first time, while others are searching for the flavours they remember from their travels in Thailand. Helping guests choose dishes they’ll enjoy and seeing their reactions is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.Tom Yum Soup

Of course, there are tiring days. Like every family business, we face challenges. But then a guest leaves with a smile, returns for another visit, or writes a kind review saying we made their first meal in Singapore memorable.

Moments like these remind us why we opened Thong Thai Bistro.

Our goal has never been simply to serve food. We want every guest to feel welcomed, cared for, and leave with a genuine taste of Southern Thailand.

If our guests leave happier than when they arrived, then we know we’ve done our job.  Book here for your reservations or takeaway.

Why We Don’t Use Professional Food Photography

Why We Don’t Use Professional Food Photography

In today’s world, it’s common to see restaurant photos that have been professionally styled, carefully lit, and heavily edited before they appear online.

At Thong Thai Bistro, we’ve taken a different approach.

Since opening, we have never organised a professional food photoshoot. The photos on our website, Google Business Profile, and social media are largely taken during normal service. Many are captured by our guests, while others are simple photographs of the dishes exactly as they are prepared and served.

We believe that honesty builds trust. When you browse our menu or website, we want you to see the real food that will arrive at your table—not a version created just for a camera.

That philosophy reflects how we cook. Chef June prepares every dish fresh to order using family recipes from Southern Thailand. Fresh seafood, quality ingredients, and authentic flavours matter more to us than creating a perfect studio image.

OuMango sticky rice r guests often tell us that the dishes look just like the photos they saw before visiting. For us, that is one of the best compliments we can receive.

Beautiful food does not need to be staged. When quality ingredients and traditional recipes come together, the food speaks for itself.

We invite you to visit Thong Thai Bistro and experience authentic Southern Thai cuisine exactly as you see it—real, fresh, and prepared with care. Or you can order online for take away or delivery.

Why Simple Food Is Often the Best Food

Why Simple Food Is Often the Best Food

One of the nicest compliments we receive is also one of the simplest.

Guests often tell us, “The food is very nice.”

It may sound like a few ordinary words, but for us, they mean everything.

At Thong Thai Bistro, we believe great food does not need to be complicated. It begins with authentic recipes, quality ingredients, and respect for traditional cooking.

Chef June learned to cook from her parents and grandparents in Southern Thailand. These are family recipes that have been enjoyed around the dining table for generations. Instead of changing them to follow trends, we stay true to the flavours that made them special in the first place.

Green Curry with seafoodFreshness is equally important. Seafood is carefully selected, herbs and vegetables are chosen with care, and every dish is prepared fresh to order. We believe there is no shortcut to authentic flavour.

Southern Thai cuisine is known for its balance. Sweet, sour, salty, spicy, and savoury flavours come together naturally, allowing every ingredient to play its part without overpowering the others.

Whether it is our Tom Yum Soup, Threadfin Fish in Southern Curry Paste, Jumbo Prawns, Pad Thai, or our famous Mango Sticky Rice, our goal remains the same: to serve food that guests will remember and return for.

Sometimes the best compliment is also the simplest. When a guest says our food is “very nice,” we know we have stayed true to what matters most.

Why Authentic Thai Food Starts with Authentic Thai Ingredients

One of the questions we are often asked is, “Why does your food taste different?”

The answer is simple: authentic flavours begin with authentic ingredients.

At Thong Thai Bistro, we source our fresh seafood, vegetables, and meats locally because freshness is essential. However, many of the ingredients that define Southern Thai cooking cannot simply be replaced with local alternatives.

Chef June grew up in Southern Thailand and learned to cook from her parents and grandparents. She understands how authentic herbs, curry pastes, seasonings, spices, and Thai tea should taste because these are the flavours she grew up with.

Whenever possible, we import speciality ingredients directly from Thailand. This allows us to preserve the balance and character of traditional Southern Thai cuisine rather than adapting recipes to suit convenience.

The same philosophy applies to our Original Thai Milk Tea. Made with authentic Thai tea leaves, it delivers the rich aroma, colour, and flavour that generations of Thai people have enjoyed.

We believe authenticity is built one ingredient at a time. By combining imported Thai ingredients with fresh local seafood and produce, we can offer a dining experience that remains true to Southern Thailand while supporting local freshness.

For us, authenticity is not a marketing slogan—it is a commitment to serving food that honours tradition and respects every ingredient. Make a reservations now to visit us

Mango Sticky Rice Birthday Cake | A Unique Birthday Dessert in Singapore

Mango Sticky Rice Birthday Cake Alternative | A Unique Celebration Dessert in Singapore

When people think of birthdays, they usually think of cream cakes, butter cakes, or cheesecakes. But what if there was a better way to celebrate?

At Thong Thai Bistro, many families have discovered that Mango Sticky Rice makes a fantastic birthday centrepiece. Instead of ending a meal with a heavy cake covered in cream and icing, guests can enjoy fresh mangoes, fragrant sticky rice, and creamy coconut milk.

The combination is lighter, fresher, and perfect after a satisfying meal. It is also something different that guests remember long after the celebration ends.

Another advantage is practicality. Many families already plan to order dessert, so choosing Mango Sticky Rice as the birthday “cake” means there is no need to purchase a separate cake as well. Everyone gets to enjoy a traditional Thai dessert while celebrating together.

Sometimes the most memorable birthday cakes are not cakes at all. Sometimes they are Mango Sticky Rice.

A True Family-Run Thai Restaurant in Singapore | The Story Behind Thong Thai Bistro

More Than a Restaurant: The Family Behind Thong Thai Bistro

Thong Thai Bistro

When guests visit Thong Thai Bistro, they often meet Chef June in the kitchen and Indi in the dining room. What many do not realise is that the restaurant is powered by an entire family.

As parents of three children, Indi and June have built more than a restaurant — they have built a family business. Over the years, their children have learned every aspect of restaurant operations and are always ready to step in when help is needed.

From serving guests and taking orders to washing dishes and assisting in the kitchen, every family member understands that no task is too small when it comes to looking after guests.

The children have attended courses, gained practical experience, and learned the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and hospitality. They are the restaurant’s backup team during busy periods and staff shortages, helping ensure that service standards remain high.

At Thong Thai Bistro, hospitality is not just a business philosophy. It is a family value. Every meal served reflects the combined effort of a family working together to share authentic Southern Thai food and genuine hospitality with every guest.

That is what makes Thong Thai Bistro more than just a restaurant. It is a family story that continues with every guest who walks through our doors.

What Makes Authentic Thai Food So Delicious? | The Southern Thai Philosophy

What Makes Food Truly Delicious? The Southern Thai Philosophy

Every diner has their own definition of delicious food. For some, it is comfort. For others, it is excitement, nostalgia, or discovering something completely new. At Thong Thai Bistro, we believe truly delicious food is food that leaves a lasting impression long after the meal has ended.

For Chef June, delicious food starts with quality ingredients. Fresh seafood, carefully selected vegetables, aromatic herbs, and authentic ingredients form the foundation of every dish. But ingredients alone do not create great food.

The true art of Thai cooking lies in balance. Every dish must bring together sweet, sour, salty, spicy, and savoury flavours in harmony. When these flavours are balanced correctly, each bite becomes memorable.

Many guests visiting Thong Thai Bistro for the first time discover that authentic Southern Thai cuisine offers a depth of flavour that is very different from what they expected. The generous use of herbs, spices, seafood, and traditional family recipes creates dishes that are bold, vibrant, and full of character.

Over time, diners come to appreciate these authentic flavours and return not just for a meal, but for an experience they cannot easily find elsewhere.

At Thong Thai Bistro, our goal has always been simple: serve authentic Southern Thai food with quality ingredients, genuine hospitality, and flavours that guests will remember long after they leave. Or you can also order online.
